7th New Polish Film Festival Filmland Polen

The 7th New Polish Film Festival, Filmland Polen, will open on Friday in Hannover, Hamburg, Lübeck and Bremen, with screenings of Four Nights with Anna (Cztery noce z Anną) by Jerzy Skolimowski and Circle of Deceit (Die Fälschung) by Volker Schlöndorff.

As Polish cinema celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, the programme will include not only the most interesting productions of the last year but also classics of Polish cinema, including two films with silent film star Pola Negri. She will be seen in Beast (Bestia) by Aleksander Hertz (1917) and Sumurun by Ernest Lubitsch (1920), with both films accompanied by live music.

These are not the only examples at Filmland Polen of Polish and German actors performing in tandem. Festival-goers may also view Daniel Olbrychski in the Polish production Land of Promise (Ziemia obiecana) by Andrzej Wajda and the German classic The Tin Drum (Die Blechtrommel) by Volker Schlöndorff; Zbigniew Zamachowski in Reverted (Zawrócony) by Kazimierz Kutz and Distant Lights (Lichter) by Hans-Christian Schmid; Grażyna Szapołowska in Custody (Nadzór) by Wiesław Saniewski, and Wanted! (Nachbarinnen) by Franziska Meletzky.

The event, the oldest Polish film festival in Germany, is held under the patronage of Agnieszka Odorowicz, General Director of the Polish Film Institute.
