"80 Million" as Comic Book

80 million as a comic book

80 milionów (80 Million), directed by Waldemar Krzystek is Poland’s candidate for the foreign language Academy Awards and has received a subsidy from the Polish Film Institute for promoting the film in the United States.

Comic Book about 80 Million

December 3, 2012 will mark the Los Angeles screening of 80 milionów (80 Million) for members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, who decide on nominations for the Oscars in the Best Foreign Language Film category. The film’s producer, Wrocław-based Mediabrigade, has chosen to promote the film among Academy members in an unorthodox way. Two top industry papers, The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, will feature a three-page comic book insert depicting the extravagant move of the protagonists – withdrawing 80 million zlotys from the bank right before the introduction of martial law in Poland.

The comic book is aimed at showing the events from Poland’s contemporary history and encouraging Academy members to vote for the Polish candidate. The comics were prepared by Kamil “Kurt” Kochański, graphic artist, illustrator and storyboard artist, responsible for animation for various films, including the feature Jeż Jerzy (Jeż Jerzy: The Movie). Kochański’s works have been published in “Fantastyka” and “Produkt” magazines in Poland.
