Andrzej Wajda Awarded in Venice

A Silver Ribbon Award was granted to Andrzej Wajda by Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists for his film Katyń.

The Silver Ribbon Award, which has been granted since 1947, is the second-oldest film award in the world after the Academy Awards. Danuta Stenka received the award on behalf of Andrzej Wajda during the 66th Venice International Film Festival and read a letter from Wajda to the Italian audience.

The letter said the director hoped that: “this prestigious award will strengthen the warning contained in this film and directed to the European audience.”Wajda wrote also that awarding him the prize moved him deeply, because at the Venice Festival in 1998 he received the Golden Lion Award for Lifetime Achievement

The latest film by Andrzej Wajda, Sweet Rush (Tatarak), will be screened at the New York Film Festival in October.
