Celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Polish animation

Last weekend the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Polish animation began in Wrocław with a concert, “Gloria Animatoris!”, directed by Kasia Adamik.

Special guests included Hugh Welchman, British producer of BreakThru Films, who this year together with Suzie Templeton received an Academy Award in Hollywood for the animated film Peter and the Wolf (Piotruś i wilk), and Zbigniew Rybczyński, who 25 years ago received an Oscar for Tango.

On Friday in Entropia Gallery a meeting was held entitled “Kultura 2.0. Młoda Polska Animacja”. The guests were Piotr Dumała and Wojtek Wawszczyk.

The celebrations are sponsored by the Polish Film Institute and the Polish Filmmakers Association. Bogdan Zdrojewski, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, is the official patron.

Celebrations are planned throughout Poland and include festivals and other promotion activities.
This year a third DVD album devoted to Polish animated film is to be issued. After the success of “Anthology of Polish Animated Film” and “Anthology of Polish Children’s Animation”, the third collection is called “Anthology of Polish Experimental Animation”. A book will also be issued about the history of Polish animation.
