"Cold War" in Swiss and Spanish Cinemas





Film premiere in Switzerland

The Film Coopi company is responsible for the film distribution in Switzerland. On October 4th, the film will be screened in the German and Italian part of Switzerland, and on October 10th in the Romanesque part of the country.

“Cold War” in Spanish cinemas

The film will be released theatrically in Spain on October 5th. Distribution is handled by Caramel Films.

The rights to “Cold War” were sold for approx. 40 territories, including  North American countries (USA and Canada), Europe (including Great Britain, France, Benelux, Germany, Italy, Greece, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Czech Republic, Scandinavia, Turkey, Hungary, Romania), Asia (China, Japan, South Korea), South America (Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia) and Australia and New Zealand. The American distributor, Amazon, announces the introduction of a film in the US at the end of December.

“Cold War”

“Cold War” tells the story of the great and difficult love of two people who cannot be together but also cannot be apart. The lead roles are played by Tomasz Kot and Joanna Kulig, with supporting performances from Agata Kulesza and Borys Szyc. The events shown in Cold War take place in Poland and the slowly re-awakening Europe of the 1950s and 1960s, and they are set against a unique soundtrack which combines Polish folk music with jazz and songs from the Parisian bars of the last century.

Polish candidate for Oscar®

Paweł Pawlikowski won the Best Director award at the 71st Cannes International Film Festival, where the world premiere of the film took place. This is the first production in Polish language in 28 years, which participated in  Main Competition of one of the most important film events in the world. The film is a Polish candidate for Oscar®.

Paweł Pawlikowski is not only a director, but also – together with Janusz Głowacki and Piotr Borkowski – the author of the Cold War script. Katarzyna Sobańska and Marcel Sławiński are responsible for the set design. The author of the pictures is Łukasz Żal. The shooting began in January 2017 and ended at the beginning of August 2017. The crew filmed “Cold War” not only in Poland, but also in France and Croatia.

Film co-financed by the Polish Film Institute

The image is a Polish-French-British co-production. Ewa Puszczyńska from the Opus Film studio is the Polish producer of the film, the British  producer is Apocalypso Pictures, and the French producer is MK Productions. The film is  co-financed, among others, by Polish Film Institute, Film4, British Film Institute, CNC, ARTE France, Canal + Poland and the Eurimages fund. The co-producers of the image are, among others, Mazowiecki and Warszawski Fundusz Filmowy, Łódź Film Fund, Silesian Film Fund and Podkarpacki Film Fund. MK2 Films and Protagonist Pictures are responsible for international sales. The film came out in  Polish cinemas on  June 8th, and its distributor is Kino Świat.
