"Corpus Christi" And "Sole" Awarded In Venice





“Corpus Christi” won the Europa Cinemas Label and the Inclusive Award Edipo Re at the 76th Venice International Film Festival. The second film co-financed by the Polish Film Institute which left Venice with awards is the Italian-Polish co-production “Sole”.

Double distinction for “Corpus Christi”

Jan Komasa’s latest film received two awards in Venice: Europa Cinemas Label and the Inclusive Award Edipo Re.

Europa Cinemas Label has been awarded since 2003 at five of the most important European festivals: Berlinale, Cannes, Karlovy Vary, Locarno and Venice. It aims to support the promotion and international distribution of winning films. Only in 2016, Europa Cinemas enabled 371 cinema networks to increase the number of screenings of European films – thanks to the efforts of the organization, these films were watched by over 600,000 viewers. The Inclusive Award Edipo Re is awarded to films that carry humanistic values.

“Corpus Christi” at subsequent festivals

The Venice International Film Festival has opened a world tour of “Corpus Christi”. The latest film by Jan Komasa will also be presented in the Contemporary World Cinema section of the Toronto Film Festival – the largest and most important event of its kind in North America. The Asian premiere will take place at the Busan International Film Festival in South Korea. “Corpus Christi” will also be shown during the 44th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, where among 18 other productions it will compete for the most important Polish film awards – Golden Lions. It will hit cinemas all over Poland on October 11.

Italian-Polish co-production appreciated in Venice

The second film co-financed by the Polish Film Institute and awarded at the Venice festival was the Italian-Polish co-production of Carlo Sironi’s “Sole”.

The production shown in the Orizzonti competition won the FEDIC Award for the best film (the Italian Federation of Film Clubs) and the Lanterna Magica Award. In turn, the leading male role Claudio Segaluscio received the NUOVOIMAIE Talent Award.

The Polish film producer is Agnieszka Wasiak from Lava Films. Sandra Drzymalska plays the leading role. The author of the music for the film is Teoniki Rożynek, and Michał Fojcik is responsible for the sound.

Roman Polański’s new film awarded in Venice

Another film with Polish accents was, shown in the main competition, “Officer and Spy” directed by Roman Polanski. The image received the Silver Lion and the FIPRESCI award. The film was also awarded by the students ‘Sorriso diverso’ Award and the Green Drop Award.
