"Crulic" in French Cinemas

December 12, 2012 will bring the French release of the documentary Droga na drugą stronę (Crulic – The Path to Beyond) by Anca Damian. The film was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

French Premiere on December 12

Droga na drugą stronę (Crulic – The Path to Beyond) will be released in French cinemas on December 12, under the French title Le voyage de Monsieur Crulic. The French version is narrated by Sandrine Bonnaire and Vlad Ivanov. Distribution in France is handled by Fondivina Films, which previously released Polish films Wszystko co kocham (All That I Love) by Jacek Borcuch and Kret (The Mole) by Rafael Lewandowski.

Droga na drugą stronę (Crulic – The Path to Beyond)

Co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, the Polish-Romanian co-production Droga na drugą stronę (Crulic – The Path to Beyond) is a combination of animation, documentary, and part fiction. The plot is based on real events that took place in 2007 and 2008, when Romanian-born Claudiu Crulic died after a four-month hunger strike in a Krakow prison. The film’s Polish co-producer is the Magellan Foundation, with Arkadiusz Wojnarowski acting as the Polish producer. The film was released in Polish cinemas on December 2, 2011.

Awards in Poland and Abroad

Crulic – The Path to Beyond has received recognition abroad at such festivals as Annecy (Grand Prix), Locarno (Don Quixote Award, Ecumenical Jury Prize), Cottbus (Ecumenical Jury Prize, Special Mention of the International Jury), Copenhagen (Amnesty International Award), Jihlava (Silver Eye Award), Mexico (Silver Puma Award), and Romania (GOPO Award for Best Music and Best Sound). Crulic has also been nominated for the Lux Prize film award of the European Parliament.

In Poland, Crulic received awards at the 2^nd Animator IFF (Best Feature Sound), the 37^th Gdynia Film Festival (Special Jury Prize, Best Sound, Best Original Score, and Award of the Polish Federation of Film Debate Clubs), the Warsaw Film Festival (special mention of the Ecumenical Jury), the 17^th OFAFA film festival in Krakow (Silver Line Award), and the 10^th edition of the Gdańsk Doc Film Festival (“Liberty Gate” Grand Prize).
