Dawid Ogrodnik selected as 2019 European Shooting Star





Dawid Ogrodnik is one of ten European actors selected as the 2019 Shooting Stars. The actor was nominated for the title by the Polish Film Institute.

2019 Shooting Stars

Shooting Stars is a programme created by European Film Promotion (EFP) aimed at promoting young European acting talents. This year, Dawid Ogrodnik’s fellow Shooting Stars include Elliott Crosset Hove (Denmark), Rea Lest-Liik (Estonia), Emma Drogunova (Germany), Kristín Thora Haraldsdóttir (Iceland), Aisling Franciosi (Ireland), Blagoj Veselinov (Macedonia), Ine Marie Wilmann (Norway), Milan Marić (Serbia), Ardalan Esmaili (Sweden).

Dawid Ogrodnik is a graduate of the State Theatre School in Kracow. He has been in many critically acclaimed films, and received prizes for his work in a number of them, including acting honours in Leszek Dawid’s Jesteś Bogiem; Maciej Pieprzyca’s Life Feels Good – which won him awards around the globe; and Anna Kazejak’s Promise. He was also cast in the Oscar-winning Ida by Paweł Pawlikowski.

Most recently, Ogrodnik is at work on three films in Poland. He has been collaborating with the Rozmaitości Theatre in Warsaw since 2013.

29 Candidates

The final list of ten 2019 Shooting Stars were selected among 29 candidates nominated by members of European Film Promotion (EFP). Dawid Ogrodnik was nominated by the Polish Film Institute. The selection of European acting talent based on their prior acting experience was made by international jury members: Award-winning Macedonian director Teona Strugar Mitevska, renowned US-casting director Avy Kaufman, Belgrade-based film critic and journalist Tara Karajica, former Irish Producer on the Move Macdara Kelleher, and former European Shooting Star, multi award-winning Ingvar Sigurdsson from Iceland.

A Chance for an International Career

Dawid Ogrodnik is Poland’s sixth actor to be selected as a Shooting Stars. In previous years, Shooting Stars included Agnieszka Grochowska in 2007, Agata Buzek in 2010, Jakub Gierszał in 2012, Mateusz Kościukiewicz in 2014 and Zofia Wichłacz in 2017. Being nominated for a Shooting Star title has opened the road to an international career for many young European actors, including Franka Potente, Rachel Weisz, Daniel Craig, Daniel Bruhl, Carey Mulligan, Albie Rohrwacher, Mélanie Laurent, Moritz Bleibtreu, and Elena Anayi.

The 22nd Edition of Shooting Stars at Berlinale

The official Shooting Stars presentation will take place on February 8-11, 2019 at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival. 2019 will mark the 22nd edition of this event. Throughout the year, the actors selected as Shooting Stars will visit a number of international film festivals, and participate in workshops and master classes as new ambassadors of European cinema.
