Several documentaries co-financed by the Polish Film Institute are among this year's edition of the prestigious Silver Eye awards, presented annually at the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival.
The East Silver Market is a unique event supporting producers and distributors from Central and Eastern Europe. Organised annually during the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival, East Silver hosts about 350 films from over 29 countries each year.
Selected films screening at the East Silver Market are eligible for the Silver Eye awards. The aim of these awards is to recognise exceptional documentary films from Central and Eastern Europe and support them in finding sales agents and distributors. Polish films that have received the Silver Eye award in the past include Królik po berlińsku (Rabbit a la Berlin) by Bartek Konopka, Wytnij wklej (Cut — Paste) by Rafał Samusik, Kiedyś będziemy szczęśliwi (We Will Be Happy One Day) by Paweł Wysoczański, Sceny sprzed (Previous Scenes) by Aleksandra Maciuszek and Joanna by Aneta Kopacz.
This year the East Silver Market features over 50 recent documentary films produced or co-produced in Poland. Eight of these films have been nominated for the Silver Eye awards for best documentaries screening at the market.
The unique quality of the Silver Eye award is that it is presented to the producer, not the director of the film. The award is designed to support promotion and distribution of the winning film overseas. Films in the market are divided into three categories: short, medium-length and feature-length documentaries. In addition to the statuette, winners receive a cash prize as well as a yearly representation of the film in East Silver Caravan, which comes with promoting the winning film at over 100 key film festivals around the world.
