Europe's Best Cinema is in Kraków!

Kino pod Baranami in Kraków received the Europa Cinemas award for best repertoire.

Kino pod Baranami has been a member of Europa Cinemas since 1996. The network consists of 750 cinemas in 43 countries and operates as part of the European Union MEDIA programme.

The awards ceremony will be held during the next Europa Cinemas conference, taking place in Warsaw. The ceremony is scheduled for Friday, November 20 at 9:30pm in the Muranów cinema in Warsaw.

The award was given to Kino pod Baranami in recognition of its 2008 repertoire, but in fact it honours the cinema’s programming since its early days. Kino pod Baranami has always focused on art house cinema and given top priority to European cinema, while promoting original and artistic projects.

Every year, Kino pod Baranami is home to a number of film festivals, including the Kraków Film Festival and Unsound Festival, as well as numerous national film weeks from various countries in Europe and around the world. Kino pod Baranami also screens documentaries, short films, animation films, experimental projects, mobile movies and video art.

In addition, Kino pod Baranami organizes the annual Silent Cinema Festival. Its 11th edition will take place in December 2009.

Kino pod Baranami is also a special place for young viewers. The cinema has been recognized by parents and awarded the title of Child Friendly Environment. In cooperation with the New Horizons Association, Kino pod Baranami implements an educational programme. Its film academy is attended by over 1,600 students from the entire region.
