EUROPEAN PREMIERE OF ANDRZEJ WAJDA'S "AFTERIMAGE" IN ROME

Andrzej Wajda’s Powidoki (Afterimage) will have its European premiere at La Festa del Cinema in Rome. The festival runs from October 13 through October 23. The film will be released theatrically in Poland on January 13, 2017.

Powidoki (Afterimage) in Rome

“A touching work that portrays the relationship between dictatorship and art, ideology and freedom of expression,” says festival director Antonio Monda about Andrzej Wajda’s most recent work. The lineup of last year’s Rome Film Festival featured Moje córki krowy (These Daughters of Mine) by Kinga Dębska and Crache-Coeur by Julia Kowalski.

Powidoki (Afterimage) follows the story of Władysław Strzemiński, an artist who battled socialist realism and suffered terrible consequences of his artistic choices. It is a film about how communist authorities destroyed a charismatic and rebellious individual.

The lead is played by Bogusław Linda, with supporting roles by Bronisława Zamachowska, Zofia Wichłacz and Krzysztof Pieczyński. The script was written by Andrzej Mularczyk, and the film was lensed by Paweł Edelman. Powidoki (Afterimage) was produced by Akson Studio, co-produced by the National Audiovisual Institute, Telewizja Polska and Fundacja Tumult, and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. The film had its world premiere at the 41st Toronto Film Festival and a special screening at the 41st Gdynia Film Festival. Powidoki (Afterimage) will be released theatrically in Poland on January 13, 2017.

European Premiere in Rome

Andrzej Wajda’s Powidoki (Afterimage) will have its European premiere at La Festa del Cinema in Rome. The screening of the film will be accompanied by members of the crew – Bogusław Linda and Paweł Edelman. 

Andrzej Wajda Passes Away at the Age of 90

On October 9, 2016 the great Andrzej Wajda has passed away at the age of 90.
