"General Nil" Voted Best Film

Generał Nil (General Nil) won the audience poll of the annual Filmland Polen festival, which runs simultaneously in four cities in northern Germany (Hamburg, Hanover, Lübeck, and Bremen). The film scored 4.9 out of a maximum 5 points.

This excellent result came as a surprise even to the festival hosts, who never saw such unanimously positive opinions about any single film screened at their festival. Zero by Paweł Borowski ranked second, with Dom zły (Dark House) by Wojciech Smarzowski coming in third place.

The festival screenings of Filmland Polen take place in cycles several times a year. After every screening, audiences are encouraged to vote. After the last series of screenings (which takes place in December), the festival team performs a final count of the votes.

General Nil was screened in December 2010 as part of one of the last cycles of the festival. Olgierd Łukaszewicz, who played the lead role in Bugajski’s feature, was special guest at the screenings and Q&A sessions.

The Audience Award at Filmland Polen marks yet another award received abroad by General Nil.

General Nil was produced in 2009 by Warsaw-based WFDiF, in co-production with Monolith Films and Telekomunikacja Polska. The film was co-financed by the Home Army Film Foundation (Fundacja Filmowa Armii Krajowej), the City of Warsaw, and the Polish Film Institute.
