Golden Reel Award for "Warsaw Uprising"

Powstanie warszawskie (Warsaw Uprising), a film co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, received the Golden Reel Award for sound editing, an award presented by the Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE), an international association of sound editors.

Searching for the Sounds of the Uprising

The sound editing credits on Powstanie warszawskie (Warsaw Uprising) go to Bartosz Putkiewicz of Cafe Ole and Marcin Kasiński MPSE and Kacper Habisiak MPSE of Dreamsound Studio. The film was produced by the Warsaw Uprising Museum. While working on the sound edit, the team spent hundreds of hours in the studio, ‘hunting’ for the sounds of the city, of street fighting, the sounds of shots and explosions. They also worked with a criminologist who reads lips, which allowed them to partly reconstruct the original dialogue.

Powstanie Warszawskie (Warsaw Uprising) was seen by a total audience of over 600,000 in Polish cinemas. The film was also promoted abroad and received recognition from the American Film Institute (AFI), which led to it being selected as the opening film of the prestigious AFI European Union Film Showcase in Washington D.C. The film also received mention in foreign press, including the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times.
