GREAT RECEPTION OF "HIGH LIFE" AT THE TORONTO FESTIVAL





Very good reception of the film by critics

Produced, among others by the Polish company Madants, the film starring Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche and Agata Buzek gathers positive reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival. The reviewers emphasize, among others,  the courage of the director- Claire Denis. Film reviews appeared, among others in The Los Angeles Times, Variety, Sight & Sound, The Hollywood Reporter, IndieWire and Screen International.

“High Life”  will be introduced to Polish cinemas by Against Gravity in the first quarter of next year. Earlier, in October, it will be shown at the Warsaw International Film Festival.

The European premiere of the film will take place at the International Film Festival in San Sebastian.

Polish artists involved in film making

Claire Denis’s film “High Life” is a thriller in the sci-fi convention. In addition to Robert Pattinson, the cast includes Juliette Binoche, Mia Goth and Agata Buzek. The photos were taken in Germany and Poland. The production was supervised by Andrew Lauren Productions (USA), Alcatraz Films (France), Pandora Film Produktion (Germany), The Apocalypse Films (UK) and Madants (Poland).

The Polish part of the film was shot in the vicinity of Białystok with the participation of the Polish cameraman Tomasz Naumiuk and the set designer Mela Melak. Marcin Rodak was responsible for the characterization and  Piotr Bartuszek for the casting. The film was created in cooperation with Match & Spark.

The script tells the story of convicts deciding to exchange their sentences for participation in a dangerous mission, the aim of which is to obtain black hole energy and observe biological processes of people staying in the extraterrestrial space for a long time. During the mission, tensions increase between its participants. 

The film was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute under the priority of production of minority co-productions.

According to the producer, the film has already been sold in virtually all territories, yesterday (13/09) sales to North America have been confirmed (A42).

It is worth adding that this is another production co-produced by Madants, which is successful internationally. Recently, the Best Director award in the Orizzonti section at the Venice International Film Festival was given to “The River”.
