Shooting Stars 2012

Shooting Stars is a special programme organized by European Film Promotion (EFP); a programme aimed at promoting young and talented European actors. Apart from Gierszał, this year’s Shooting Stars include Adèle Haenel (France), Anna Maria Mühe (Germany), Antonia Campbell-Hughes (Ireland), Hilmar Guðjónsson (Iceland), Isabella Ragonese (Italy), Ana Ularu (Romania), Bill Skarsgård (Sweden), Max Hubacher (Switzerland), and Riz Ahmed (United Kingdom).

23 Candidates

The ten Shooting Stars were selected from among 23 candidates, submitted for consideration by European Film Promotion members. Jakub Gierszał was nominated by the Polish Film Institute. The final selection of most talented European young actors was made based on the actors’ artistic accomplishments by an international jury: actor Thure Lindhardt from Denmark, director Marleen Gorris from Denmark, producer Ada Solomon from Romania, casting director Simone Bär from Germany, and film journalist Matt Mueller from the United Kingdom.

A Chance for an International Career

Jakub Gierszał is the third Polish actor to be named a Shooting Star. Agnieszka Grochowska and Agata Buzek are two Polish actresses who had been named Shooting Stars in 2007 and 2010 respectively. The Shooting Stars nomination launched an international career for many European actors, including Franka Potente, Rachel Weisz, Daniel Craig, Daniel Bruhl, Carey Mulligan, Alba Rohrwacher, Mélanie Laurent, Moritz Bleibtreu, and Elena Anayi.

This will mark the programme’s 15th anniversary edition.
