Karolina Piechota Awarded in Cairo

Karolina Piechota received the award for Best Actress at the 33rd International Film Festival in Cairo for her role in Splinters by Maciej Pieprzyca. The jury awarded her for “the warmth, humour and credibility she brought to the role”.

Splinters takes place in Silesia. It is the story of three young people – a miner’s son, a talented scientist and a girl whose parents try to find her a rich husband.

Karolina Piechota received the Best Acting Debut award at last year’s Polish Film Festival in Gdynia for her role in Splinters.

The Best Film award in Cairo went to the Finnish picture Postia pappi Jaakobille (Letters to Father Jacob), directed by Klaus Harö. Harö also won the Best Screenplay award.

The 33rd Cairo International Film Festival took place between November 10 and November 20.
