Kuba Czekaj wins 11th edition of ScripTeast

ScripTeast Award Winner was announced during 70th Cannes IFF. The winner is “Sorry Poland” by Kuba Czekaj.

During the 70th Film Festival in Cannes, the Krzysztof Kieślowski Prize for Best Screenplay developed under the PFI co-financed ScripTeast programme was awarded for the eleventh time, to the best scriptwriter from Central and Eastern Europe. The ceremony announcing the winner was held on 23 May. Three scripts from Poland were running for the prize: by Anna Kazejak and Przemysław Nowakowski, Kuba Czekaj and Agnieszka Zwiefka. Through the decision of the ScripTeast Artistic Council, composed of Sandy Lieberson, Antonio Saura, Manfred Schmidt, Simon Perry, Tom Abrams and Christian Routh, the Award has been made to the script “Sorry Poland” by Kuba Czekaj.

Kuba Czekaj’s “Sorry Poland” is developed by Magnet Man Film. The project has received development funding from the Polish Film Institute and was awarded at this years’ Berlinale with the Baumi Script Development Award.

11th edition of ScripTeast

The 11th edition of the programme featured 11 scripts from nine countries, including from Georgia and Belarus, for the first time in the programme’s history. The last session of the programme began on 18 May. Participants at the workshop in Cannes were focusing on the promotion of the completed projects and met producers, sales agents, representatives of festivals, film funds and distribution companies.

ScripTeast

is a project based training programme, designed specifically for scriptwriters from Eastern and Central Europe. Independent Film Foundation is organizing ScripTeast because there is huge undeveloped potential in scriptwriting in this part of the world. There are lots of talented scriptwriters here, but their films are not seen outside their countries. ScripTeast is meant to help them overcome barriers they encounter.

ScripTeast was created by the Polish director and producer Dariusz Jablonski. The programme is organized by Independent Film Foundation co-funded by Creative Europe – MEDIA Sub-Programme of the EU, the Polish Film Institute, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, Apple Film Production in co-operation with the European Film Academy, Producers Network, European Producers Club.
