Les Arcs Festival - Focus on Poland





The program of the French festival Les Arcs included a special section devoted to Polish cinematography.

Polish films in competition sections

The main competition will include awarded on the Berlinale “Mug” by Małgorzata Szumowska. In the short film competition, the Polish cinematography will be represented by the award-winning animation entitled “III” by Marta Pajek.

Focus on Poland

This year, Polish cinema occupies a special place in the festival program. As part of a special section, 12 Polish films and co-productions will be shown:

• “Another day of life”, dir. Raul de la Fuente, Damin Nenow,

 • “Ida”, dir. Paweł Pawlikowski,

• “Spoor”, dir. Agnieszka Holland, Kasia Adamik,

• “Flowing skyscrapers”, dir. Tomasz Wasilewski,

• “Loving Vincent”, dir. Dorota Kobiela, Hugh Welchman,

• “Tower. A bright day. “, Dir. Jagoda Szelc,

• “Fugue”, dir. Agnieszka Smoczyńska,

• “Over the Limit”, dir. Marta Prus,

• “Trafiic Department”, dir. Wojciech Smarzowski,

• “Gods”, dir. Łukasz Palkowski,

• “Silent Night”, dir. Piotr Domalewski,

• “Wild roses”, dir. Anna Jadowska.

In the section presenting top box-office films or genre films, “Clergy” by Wojciech Smarzowski will be shown.

Polish projects at Les Arcs Coproduction Village

Les Arcs Coproduction Village will show 20 European productions at the development stage that are looking for an additional source of financing or co-producer. Producers of selected projects, during a 3-day event, will have the chance to network with professionals taking part in the event.

Selected titles include Piotr Domalewski’s new projects (“I never cry,” produced by Akson Studio),

 Marta Minorowicz (“Ilusion”, produced by Alter Ego Pictures, Chimney, Studio Dźwiękownia, Studio Panika), and Aleksandra Terpińska (“Other people” prod. Madants, debut), Jagoda Szelc (“Delicate Balance of Terror “, produced by Nur, Isyrius).

The best project will receive an award from the ArteKino Festival worth 4,000. euro.

Work in Progress

The very prestigious Work in Progress section includes the project “Bailout Folks” by Marek Lechki (the producers of the film are Telemark, Heliograf, Kineskop, Monternia, Toof). The Polish title was included in the group of 15 selected projects that will be presented in this section.

Dawid Bodzak is a Polish representative in Talent Village 2018

The newly created section within the industry program – Talent Village – is to draw attention to emerging talents, whose short films have gained recognition at festivals, and are now preparing to work on a full-length debut. Among the eight selected artists was Dawid Bodzak, whose film “Tremors” won in 2018 the main prize at the festival in Clermont-Ferrand. The creators will present their debut projects. They will also take part in a three-day training at Cinéfabrique film school in Lyon. The best project will receive the Talent Village BNP Paribas prize of 5,000. euro.

The festival will take place on December 15-22.
