"Little Moscow" wins Golden Lion in Gdynia

Little Moscow (Mała Moskwa) directed by Waldemar Krzystek was awarded the Golden Lion and PLN 50 000 at the 33rd Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.

Set in the 1960s, the film is based on a true story about the forbidden love between the wife of a Soviet officer and a Polish soldier.

A Golden Lion was also given to Jacek Bławut, who presented his feature debut at the festival Not yet Evening (Jeszcze nie wieczór), a story about boarders at the Veteran Actors’ Home in Skolimów.

The Polish Filmmakers Association Award for creative display of the contemporary situation was given posthumously to Piotr Łazarkiewicz for 0_1_0.

“The Polish Film Institute co-financed 15 out of 16 productions from the competition,” said Agnieszka Odorowicz, General Director of the Polish Film Institute. “I am proud that Polish artists can tell such beautiful stories. Our cinema is really getting better.”
