"Loving Vincent" and Maciej Pieprzyca Awarded at Shanghai IFF!
Twój Vincent (Loving Vincent) won the Award for Best Animation and Maciej Pieprzyca won the Award for Best Director (Jestem mordercą/I’m a Killer) at the 20th Shanghai International Film Festival.
Loving Vincent – Award For Best Animation
Twój Vincent (Loving Vincent), a film directed by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman received the Award for Best Animation at Shanghai International Animation Film Festival.
“Animation and fine art painting come together in this loving tribute to the work and life of a master artist” said the jury.
Twój Vincent (Loving Vincent) received also the Audience Award at Annnecy.
World’s First Painted Feature Film
Twój Vincent (Loving Vincent) is the world’s first painted feature film, made by Polish director and painter Dorota Kobiela and by Hugh Welchman (winner of the Academy Award for Peter & the Wolf). The film is produced by Oscar-winning Breakthru Films and Trademark Films. Partners on the project include CETA, Odra Film, Silver Reel, Cinema and Management Group, European Capital of Culture Wrocław 2016, and MEDIA. The film is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Through 65,000 hand-painted frames, Twój Vincent (Loving Vincent) tells the story of the life and death of Vincent van Gogh, one of the world’s most acclaimed painters. Told as an investigation into the death of the artist, the story will bring to life over 100 of van Gogh’s paintings.

Twój Vincent (Loving Vincent), a film directed by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman, has been sold to over 100 territories to date, including France, China, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Greece, Portugal, Japan, Thailand, Colombia, India, Russia, and Brazil.
Maciej Pieprzyca – Award for Best Director
Maciej Pieprzyca received at Shanghai International Film Festival the Award for Best Director for Jestem mordercą (I Am a Murderer) co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. The film screened in Main Competition.
Jestem mordercą (I Am a Murderer)
Jestem mordercą (I Am a Murderer) is a psychological thriller loosely based on real events that took place in Silesia in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The film’s main protagonist is a young police officer who is put in charge of a task force to catch a serial killer after the initial investigation yields no results.
The film had its world premiere at the 41st Gdynia Film Festival, winning the Silver Lions award as well as Best Screenplay and the award of the arthouse and local cinema network (SKSiL).
The film was written and directed by Maciej Pieprzyca, lensed by Paweł Dyllus, and produced by RE Studio, with co-producers including the National Audiovisual Institute, Telewizja Polska, Agora S.A., Monternia.pl, and Silesia Film. The film was also co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. Jestem mordercą (I Am a Murderer) features performances by Mirosław Haniszewski, Arkadiusz Jakubik, Magdalena Popławska, Michał Żurawski, and Piotr Adamczyk. Distribution is handled by Next Film.
Polish Films in Shanghai
This year festival’s audicence had the chance to see also such Polish films as Powidoki (Afterimage) by Andrzej Wajda and Maria Skłodowska-Curie (Marie Curie. The Courage of Knowledge) by Marie Noelle. During the festival also will be screened Contemporary Polish Short Animations.
