On the Set of Wałęsa

We visited the set of Wałęsa, a film co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. Wałęsa, the latest production by director Andrzej Wajda, focuses on the story of legendary Solidarity leader Lech Wałęsa, following his life from the early 1970s until the time when he was elected President.

We interviewed director Andrzej Wajda, screenwriter Janusz Głowacki, actress Agnieszka Grochowska (who plays the role of Wałęsa’s wife Danuta), and producer Michał Kwieciński. They shared their thoughts about the atmosphere of the real events that took place in August 1980, about Lech Wałęsa’s personal charisma and trying to translate it onto the big screen, and about the complex post-production process.
