"Papusza" Awarded in Brazil

Papusza, a film by Joanna Kos-Krauze and Krzysztof Krauze, received the award for Best Director at the Brasilia International FIlm Festival, which closed on September 6.

Papusza was selected as the Best Director award winner by jury members Marcus Ligocki (Brazilian producer, director and screenwriter), Charles Tesson (artistic director of Semaine de la Critique at the Cannes Film Festival), Luz Cipriota (Argentinian actress), Marcos Petrucelli (Brazilian journalist and film critic), and Ricardo Giraldo (director of Mexico’s Kino 23 Association that promotes Latin American film production).

 

The festival competition featured eleven films from Europe, North America, and South America. The jury voted for a total of five awards. The festival Grand Prize went to Norway’s 2013 Academy Award® candidate I Am Yours, directed by Iram Haq. Papusza won the award for Best Director.

 

The third edition of the Brasilia International FIlm Festival ran from August 28 through September 6. Further details about the festival are available at biffestival.com.

Another Award for Papusza

To date, Papusza has received a multitude of awards at film festivals in Poland and abroad. Most notable examples include Special Mention of the Jury at the 48th Karlovy Vary IFF, three awards at the 58th Valladolid IFF, two main awards at the 12th Pune IFF, and the Special Jury Prize at the 33rd Istanbul IFF.
