"Papusza" Awarded in Macedonia

For their work on Papusza, Krzysztof Ptak and Wojciech Staroń received a cinematography award at the 34th Manaki Brothers International Film Festival, which closed on September 20.

Bronze Camera Award for Polish Filmmakers

The Manaki Brothers Festival is an event dedicated to the art of cinematography, organized annually in the town of Bitola. The festival’s Main Competition this year featured twelve films, which were judged by jury members Jose Luis Alcaine, Dejan Dukovski, Elma Tataragic, Bojidar Manov, and Amnon Zalait. The Golden Camera Award went to Kiko de la Rica, the DP behind the Spanish feature Blancanieves (Snow White). The Silver Camera Award went to Virginie Saint-Martin, the cinematographer of Tango Libre. Krzysztof Ptak accepted the Bronze Camera Award for his cinematographic collaboration with Wojciech Staroń on Papusza, a film by Joanna Kos-Krauze and Krzysztof Krauze. The award for lifetime achievement at the Macedonian festival went to French actress Isabelle Huppert.

 

The Manaki Brothers International Film Festival is organized by the Macedonian Film Professionals’ Association (MFPA), with support from the Ministry of Culture of Macedonia. Among distinguished guests of this year’s edition of the festival was Macedonia’s Minister of Culture, Elizabeta Kanceska-Mileska.
