Poland at the 58th Berlin International Film Festival

At this year’s Berlinale, besides the Oscar-nominated film Katyń by Andrzej Wajda, viewers will see the short animation Kizi Mizi by Mariusz Wilczyński and two films in the framework of the International Film Market.

The ceremonial international premiere of Katyń, accompanied by the director and his team, will take place on 15 February at the Festival Palace. The film is in the festival’s official programme, but the director declined to let it be entered in the competition. The screening will be accompanied by a news conference with the creators.

In the Berlinale Shorts section, a short animation by Mariusz Wilczyński will be shown.

During the European Film Market accompanying the festival, there will be screenings of two Polish films being promoted by the young company BooBoo Films. An experimental and poetic picture by Lech Majewski – Glass Lips (Szklane usta) – will be shown on 11 February, and a film that was awarded at the Era New Horizons Festival, Paradise Too Far Away (Raj za daleko) by Radosław Markiewicz, will be shown on 13 February. Both films will have their international market premieres in Berlin.

The Polish Film Institute, with the Polish Filmmakers Association and TVP (Polish Television), invites festival goers to the Central European Stand (Stand No. 126) in Martin-Gropius Bau, where the market accompanying the festival is held.

The 58th Berlin International Film Festival will last from 7-17 February 2008.
