Polish Cinema goes to Cannes

Viewers will see a wide range of Polish productions and co-productions at the 62nd Cannes International Film Festival which begins on 13 May. There will also be a special stand promoting Polish cinema.

Antichrist by Lars von Tier, co-financed by the Polish Film Institute (PISF), will take part in the competition in Cannes. The premiere will take place on 18 May.

There are many Polish productions and co-productions in the festival programme. Cinefondation contains an étude from PWSFTviT Małżonkowie by Dar van Dussen; in the L’ACID section can be found the Polish-French documentary Bad Boys Cellule 425 by Janusz Mrozowski; and the Short Film Corner includes Moja nowa droga by Barbara Białowąs, Co mówią lekarze by Michał Wnuk, Obcy VI by Borys Lankosz, Wszystkie małe kłamstwa Anny by Krzysztof Bizio, Na kredyt by Przemysław Nowakowski, and Incydent by Jan Kwieciński. Most of these films were made under the programme “30 minutes”.

Traditionally PISF and the Polish Filmmakers Association organise the Polish National Cinema Stand at the Film Market accompanying the festival. The stand will be placed at Rue Mace, at the corner of the famous La Croisette. Information about Polish film production will be available, including the PISF publications “New Polish Films 2009” and “Poland Film Production Guide”.

The stand will also be a meeting place for Polish producers with foreign contractors. A series of promotional meetings for Polish producers and their films is planned, and cinematographer Sławomir Idziak will present a new Internet news bulletin called “Film Spring Open”.

Partners of the Polish Stand are ATM Grupa, Banana Split, Bow and Axe Entertainment, The Chimney Pot, Fabryka Spółka Realizatorów Filmowych, Film Media, Opus Film, Salans, SPI International Poland, Syrena Films, and Vision Film.

The festival will last until 24 May.
