Polish film retrospective in Mar del Plata

A Polish film retrospective was held during the 23rd Mar del Plata International Film Festival in Argentina.

This time Polish film classics were in the spotlight. Viewers could see Canal (Kanał) and Ashes and Diamonds (Popiół i diament) by Andrzej Wajda, Man on the Tracks (Człowiek na torze) and Eroica by Andrzej Munk, The Saragossa Manuscript (Rękopis znaleziony w Saragossie) by Wojciech Jerzy Has, and Mother Joan of the Angels (Matka Joanna od Aniołów) by Jerzy Kawalerowicz.

There were also études by Roman Polański and films by Argentinian director Jose Luis Di Zeo, a graduate from the Polish National Film, Television and Theatre School in Łódź.

Special screenings were also held of recent films, including Katyń by Andrzej Wajda and Four Nights with Anna (Cztery noce z Anną) by Jerzy Skolimowski.

The Polish retrospective aroused great interest among the Argentinian audience. Polański’s Knife in the Water (Nóż w wodzie) was a sellout; all tickets were gone one day before the opening.

The festival ended on 16 November.
