POLISH FILMS AT 58TH DOK LEIPZIG

The 58th edition of DOK.Leipzig will start on October 26 and run through November 1. This year’s festival lineup features a total of ten Polish films.

Two Films Supported by the Polish Film Institute Screening in DOK.Leipzig’s International Competition Long Documentary and Animated Film

The twelve-film lineup of this year’s International Competition Long Documentary includes two Polish films. The first of these is Bracia (Brothers) by Wojciech Staroń, who has previously received the Golden Dove award for his last documentary Argentyńska lekcja (Argentinian Lesson). The other long documentary competition entry is Czarodziejska góra (The Magic Mountain), a Polish-French-Romanian co-production directed by Anca Damian.

Dokument (A Documentary Film) and Budzik (Out of the Blue) in International Competition Short Documentary and Animated Film

The festival’s International Competition Short Documentary and Animated Film lineup also includes two Polish films, among a total of 30 in official selection. One is Marcin Podolec’s animated Dokument (A Documentary Film), the other Budzik (Out of the Blue), a documentary by Piotr Małecki.
The festival’s Next Masters competition lineup features Na barkach lwa (Shoulder the Lion), a Polish-Irish co-production by Patryk and Erinnisse Rębisz.

DOK.Leipzig’s out-of-competition lineup includes Krzysztof Kopczyński’s Dybuk. Rzecz o wędrówce dusz (The Dybbuk. A Tale of Wandering Souls) and the short documentary Ślimaki (Snails) by Grzegorz Szczepaniak. The festival lineup also features three Polish animated shorts: Płoty (Fences) by Natalia Krawczuk, Nie trać głowy (Don’t Lose Your Head) by Karolina Specht, and Signum by Witold Giersz.

Another ten films will screen at the festival’s DOK. Market, presented by Polish Docs.

Polish Films at Co-Production Market

Michał Bielawski’s The Wind. A Documentary Thriller (produced by Telemark) and Ewa Podgórska’s Diagnosis (produced by Entertain Studio), have been selected for the DOK.Leipzig Co-Production Meeting, a series of meetings set up to foster cooperation and encourage producers to engage in international co-productions in order to help secure new sources of financing. In addition to one-on-one meetings, the Co-Production Meeting programme includes panel discussions on the opportunities and challenges for the international co-production market.

DOK.Leipzig is one of the key events in the world of documentary and animated film. Every year, the festival lineup includes a wide selection of the latest films from around the world. In 2015, the festival lineup featured a total of 368 films from 62 countries. DOK.Leipzig is accompanied by a number of industry events, including the DOK Mar¬ket, the International DOK Leip¬zig Co-Production Meeting, and DOK Summit, which helps foster networking in the world of documentary and animated film, and broadening the scope of information on film production.
