Polish films at New Europe Film Festival in Scotland

Poland films accounted for one-third of the 15 works featured at the Edinburgh New Europe Film Festival, which profiles films from the 12 new European Union member states. Films also were shown from the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary and Romania.

Poland was represented by How Much the Trojan Horse Weighs? (Ile waży koń trojański?) by Juliusz Machulski, 33 Scenes from Life (33 sceny z życia) by Małgorzata Szumowska, Time to Die (Pora umierać) by Dorota Kędzierawska, The Offsiders (Boisko Bezdomnych) by Kasia Adamik, and Peter and the Wolf (Piotruś i Wilk) by Suzie Templeton. The festival was accompanied by an exhibition of Polish film posters.

The aim of the festival was to show Scottish viewers the culture and everyday life of people from the EU countries, and to encourage them to discuss contemporary film. The festival was held for the third year at the Filmhouse Cinema in Edinburgh. Additionally, six European films, which were not part of the main festival programme, were set for screening at the Barbican Cinema in London, one of which was Tricks (Sztuczki) by Andrzej Jakimowski.

The Polish section at the festival was prepared in cooperation with London Polish Film Festival “Kinoteka on Tour” and is a part of the Polish Cultural Festival in Edinburgh.
