Polish films at the 31st IFF in Palm Springs
Co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, the films ‘Corpus Christi’, ‘Mr. Jones’, ‘Sole’ and ‘Adventures of a Mathematician’ were included in the program of the 31st International Palm Springs Film Festival. “Adventures of a Mathematician” screening at the festival will be its world premiere.
Palm Springs International Film Festival
The American festival will take place from January 3-12, just before the announcement of an Oscar nomination. The program featured 51 Oscar candidates for the best international feature film category. One of the films that qualified for the festival is Jan Komasa’s “Corpus Christi”.
On January 6th, Jan Komasa will attend a panel discussion with shortlisted directors called “Shortlisted: Best International Feature Film Panel”.

Agnieszka Holland’s “Mr. Jones” (produced by Film Produkcja) will be shown in the “Modern Masters” section, next to the films of Roy Andersson, Werner Herzog, Hirokazu Koreeda and Agnes Varda.
The ‘Focus on Italy’ section includes the Italian-Polish co-production of ‘Sole’ directed by Carlo Sironi. Sandra Drzymalska starred in the lead role. The Polish film producer is Agnieszka Wasiak from Lava Films.
World premiere of the film “Adventures of a Mathematician”
“Adventures of a Mathematician” will be shown in the “World Cinema Now” section. The director of the film is the German creator Thor Klein. The film is a German-British-Polish co-production.
The film tells the fate of the legendary Polish mathematician – Stanisław Ulam – belonging to the environment of the famous “Lviv School of Mathematics”, a student of Stefan Banach. After defending his doctorate in 1934, the Polish mathematician began his scientific career at the most important European universities, including in Cambridge and Paris. On the eve of World War II, he obtained an American visa and left Lviv almost at the last moment, taking with him his younger brother, Adam.
In the United States, he joined a group of scientists working at the famous nuclear research center in Los Alamos, where, together with Edward Teller, he conducted successful research on the construction of a hydrogen bomb.
Starring roles include Philippe Tłokiński, Fabian Kocięcki and Mateusz Więcławek. The Polish producer of the film is Joanna Szymańska from Shipsboy.
