Polish films successful at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival

Filip Garbacz won a Special Jury Mention for his role in the film Piggies (Świnki) by Robert Gliński at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. A Special Jury Mention also went to Till It Hurts (Do bólu) by Marcin Koszałka in Best Documentary Film Competition, and a Special Mention was won by Scratch (Rysa) by Michał Rosa, which competed in the prestigious East of the West section.

Although the Crystal Globe went to the Belgium-Canadian Angel at Sea by Frédéric Dumont, Polish films got high marks in many critics’ ratings.

Polish cinema had a very strong representation at the festival. The screenings included Snow White and Russian Red (Wojna polsko-ruska) by Xawery Żuławski, Sweet Rush (Tatarak) by Andrzej Wajda, and Operation Danube (Operacja Dunaj) by Jacek Głomb, a comedy about the invasion on Czechoslovakia in 1968 which drew special attention.
