Radosław Ochnio Wins European Film Award!

On December 10, Radosław Ochnio will receive the award for European Sound Designer 2016 for his work on Jerzy Skolimowski’s 11 minut (11 Minutes), a film co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

On November 17, jury members Benoît Barouh, Paco Delgado, Martin Gschlacht, Dean Humphreys, Era Lapid, Waldemar Pokromski and Giuliano Taviani announced the winners of the technical European Film Awards. At the awards ceremony on December 10, Radosław Ochnio will receive the award for European Sound Designer 2016 for his work on Jerzy Skolimowski’s 11 minut (11 Minutes), a film co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Radosław Ochnio was responsible for sound post-production, sound effects, and sound design. The jury statement reads: “The sound design is hugely important for the understanding of the main characters and their anxieties. It successfully, in combination with the music, supports the story with its clever use of changing between ‘real life’ sound and a focus on the gradually increasing emotional and physical conflict that unfolds throughout the movie. The sound design never imposes itself too much but is a vital and very well crafted part of it.”

11 minut (11 Minutes) was made as a Polish-Irish co-production. The film was produced by Skopia Film, co-produced by Element Pictures, Telewizja Polska, Orange, HBO, and Fundacja Tumult, and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, Eurimages, and the Irish Film Board. 11 minut (11 Minutes) was written and directed by Jerzy Skolimowski, lensed by Mikołaj Łebkowski, and features performances by Andrzej Chyra, Dawid Ogrodnik, Wojciech Mecwaldowski, Agata Buzek, Jan Nowicki, Piotr Głowacki, Richard Dormer, and Ifi Ude.

Radosław Ochnio graduated in Sound Production from the Radio, Television and Film School in Poznań and the Łódź Film School. His filmography includes Portret z pamięci by Marcin Bortkiewicz, Koniec Świata by Monika Pawluczuk, Sekrety miłości by Krystian Matysek, Małe stłuczki (Little Crushes) by Ireneusz Grzyb and Aleksandra Gowin, Baby Bump and Królewicz Olch (The Erlprince) by Kuba Czekaj, and the Mami Fatale animated series. Radosław Ochnio is also a teacher and lecturer.

The EFA jury unveiled award winners in the following categories: European Cinematographer, European Sound Designer, European Composer, European Editor, European Production Designer, and European Hair & Make-Up Artist. Three of these awards went to the crew behind the Danish-German co-production Under sandet (The Land of Mine), directed by Martin Zandvliet.

The 29th European Film Awards ceremony will be held on December 10 in Wrocław.
