"Snow White and Russian Red" in cinemas

The long-anticipated Snow White and Russian Red (Wojna polsko-ruska) by Xawery Żuławski opened Friday in Polish cinemas.

The film is based on the celebrated novel by Dorota Masłowska, whose debut effort has gained cult status. The film is full of energy, passion and uncompromising dialogues.

Viewers enter the world of jock Silny (Borys Szyc), a speed freak who is seeking a recipe for luck and real love. After his girlfriend Magda (Roma Gąsiorowska) dumps him, he meets a string of women: gloomy Angela (Maria Strzelecka), strict friend Natasza (Sonia Bohosiewicz), seemingly shy Ola (Anna Prus), and Dorota (Dorota Masłowska), from whose imagination the rest of the film emerges. Silny also has adventures with his mate Lewy (Michał Czernecki), a football fan of Arka Gdynia.

Żuławski’s previous work includes Chaos, which won the Golden Jantar at the Koszalin film festival in 2007.

The producer is Film Media, and the distributor is ITI Cinema. The film was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
