Solidarity of Arts – festival in Gdańsk

The exceptional event, joining various fields of art – Festival Solidarity of Arts – begins in Gdańsk.

The idea of the festival grows out of freedom traditions of Gdańsk and Pomerania. The first edition of the festival starts, not accidentally, during the time of historical anniversaries – 70th anniversary of World War II outbreak, and 20th anniversary of the retrieval of freedom, and the fall of communism in the Middle Europe. Many artistic events from various fields are planned: from classical music and rock concerts, through installations and exhibitions, up to theatre performances and debates.

Many important film events will be held during the festival: a screening of the documentary film Yodok Stories by Andrzej Fidyk, presenting the terrifying image of totalitarianism in North Korea, and ceremonial premiere of Polish-American co-production The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler (Dzieci Ireny Sendlerowej) by John Kent Harrison – film creators and actors will take part in the premiere, including Anna Paquin. Right before the premiere John Kent Harrison, Anna Paquin, and Marcia Gay Harden will leave their hand-prints at Gdańsk Ołowianka.

It is worth to visit the festival also because of other reasons. A concert entitled It’s A Strange World – The Space of Freedom with Ian Gillan, lead singer for legendary Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, Nina Hagen, eccentric punk rock star, and also Lech Janerka, and Myslovitz. Moreover, concert conducted by Sir Neville Marriner and performance by Michael Nyman and Motion Trio.

Pre-premiere of the performance Zmierzch bogów and artistic project City on fire by Thyra Hilden and Pio Diaz, are also planned.
