STRONG POLISH PRESENCE AT THE 25TH COTTBUS FILM FESTIVAL

Among Polish films scheduled to screen at the upcoming 25th Cottbus Festival of East European Cinema are several films co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Feature Film Competition

Two new Polish films – Demon by Marcin Wrona and Chemia (Chemo) by Bartosz Prokopowicz — will screen in the festival’s Feature Film Competition, running against ten other films.

Short Feature Competition

The lineup of the festival’s Short Feature Competition features Dzień babci (Grandma’s Day) directed by Miłosz Sakowski, W narożniku (In The Corner) directed by Maciej Bartosz Kruk and Z łóżka powstałeś (From Bed Thou Arose) by Bartosz Konopka. 

U18 German-Polish Competition Youth Film

Dariusz Glazer’s Mur (The Wall), Julia Kowalski’s Crache-Coeur (Raging Rose) and Tomasz Jeziorski’s Gigant (Giant) will screen in Cottbus’ U18 competition for Polish and German films for young adult audiences.

Polskie Horyzonty

The ‘Polskie Horyzonty’ (Polish Horizons) section lineup includes several Polish productions and co-productions, including Letnie przesilenie (Summer Solstice) by Michał Rogalski, Wołanie (The Calling) by Marcin Dudziak, Arizona w mojej głowie (They Chased Me Through Arizona) by Matthias Hauser, and Polskie gówno (Polish Shit) by Grzegorz Jankowski.

Other Sections

The festival’s selection of children’s films includes three Polish productions – Mami Fatale and Pamiętnik Florki (Florentine’s Diary), both as series, as well as the feature animation Złote krople (Golden Drops), directed by Daniel Zduńczyk and Marcin Męczkowski. The Global East section features Strefa nagości (Nude Area) by Urszula Antoniak, while Stacja Warszawa (Warsaw Stories) will screen in the Focus section. Cottbus audiences will also have an opportunity to see Anca Damian’s Czarodziejska góra (The Magic Mountain) in the Specials/Islam section, and Patryk Vega’s Służby specjalne (Secret Wars) in the National Hits section.

Disco Polo as Closing Film

Disco Polo, a film by Maciej Bochniak, will screen at the closing ceremony of this year’s Cottbus festival.

The 25th Cottbus Festival of East European Cinema runs from November 3 through November 11, 2015.
