Jan Komasa’s Feature Released in the Czech Republic

Jan Komasa’s film Sala Samobójców (Suicide Room) will be released in cinemas across the Czech Republic on March 28. The film’s Czech title is Místnost sebevrahů. Distribution in the Czech Republic is handled by Film Europe. The film’s Polish distributor is ITI Cinema. In Poland, Suicide Room was released theatrically on March 4, 2011.

Sala Samobójców (Suicide Room)

Sala Samobójców (Suicide Room) is a coming-of-age story about the interpenetration of reality and virtual reality in the lives of today’s teenagers. Komasa’s film combines various film genres; in addition to live-action footage, Suicide Room contains over 20 minutes of computer animation. The film’s virtual reality was designed using state-of-the-art technology and special effects. The film was lensed by Radosław Ładczuk. The lead role of Dominik was played by 2012 Shooting Star Jakub Gierszał.

Awards in Poland and Abroad

The world premiere of Suicide Room, Jan Komasa’s feature debut, took place at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival in February, 2011. Komasa was also responsible for the screenplay. The film was produced by Kadr Film Studio. To date, Suicide Room has received awards in Poland (Krakow, Gdynia, Warsaw, Wrocław, Bydgoszcz), as well as in Italy , Germany, Sweden, and Slovakia. In 2012, the film was released theatrically in Slovakia.
