The Dark House Well Received in Tokyo

Two competition screenings of The Dark House by Wojciech Smarzowski at the Tokyo International Film Festival took place on the 19th and 20th of October. The film was warmly received by the festival audience.

The Dark House director Wojciech Smarzowski, actor Marian Dziędziel, who played the part of Dziabas, and producer Feliks Pastusiak met with film journalists in Tokyo.

Questions at the press conference dealt with the symbolic meaning of the film’s period dates – 1978 and 1982, touching upon the issue of how much Poland has changed. „1982 was probably the worst year of that decade. Martial law was already in place, the whole country was drenched in complete absurdity,” said the director. „Today Poland is becoming a normal country. I don’t know what my life would be like if I had been born and raised elsewhere. But I’m glad I was born in Poland,” he added.

October 20 will bring the launch of the promotional desk for Polish cinema at the International Film Market that is part of the Tokyo International Film Festival.
