"THE ERLPRINCE" IN GENERATION SECTION AT 67TH BERLIN IFF

Kuba Czekaj’s Królewicz Olch (The Erlprince), a film co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, has been selected for screening in the Generation 14plus section of the 67th Berlin International Film Festival. This will mark the second international screening of this feature, produced by the Polish Filmmakers Association’s Munk Studio. Before the Berlinale screening, in January 2017 The Erlprince will be shown at the Slamdance Film Festival in the United States.

Królewicz Olch (The Erlprince)

Królewicz Olch (The Erlprince) is the story of an exceptionally gifted teenage boy (the feature debut by young actor Stanisław Cywka) who begins his university studies in physics. He is working on a theory of parallel worlds that are linked by light, as he initially believes. He has a brilliant mind and a troubled soul, which his mother, who rules his life with an iron fist, is incapable of healing. When a man appears in their lives, he takes over raising the boy. Along a tumultuous road, a bond forms between the three characters. But their shared happiness doesn’t last long. Eventually the boy finds a solution to the mystery of the passage between worlds.

The Filmmakers

The film was written and directed by Kuba Czekaj, lensed by Adam Palenta. Costumes were designed by Aleksandra Staszko, with Aleksandra Dutkiewicz as hair & make-up artist. Agata Szymańska and Magdalena Kamińska were production managers. The film stars Stanisław Cywka, Agnieszka Podsiadlik, and Sebastian Łach.

Generation 14plus

Królewicz Olch (The Erlprince) had its world premiere at this year’s Gdynia Film Festival, winning the Young Jury Award for Best Film in Main Competition. At the Berlin IFF, the film will screen in the Generation 14plus section. Before screening at Berlinale, The Erlprince will also be shown at the Slamdance Film Festival, screening in the Beyond section.

The film will be released theatrically in Poland in the spring of 2017.

The 67th Berlin International Film Festival runs from February 9 through February19, 2017.
