Latająca maszyna (The Flying Machine) is a co-production between Poland, China, Norway, and the United Kingdom; a film made to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Frederic Chopin. This film for children and young audiences was made in 3D technology, and combines animation with live-action scenes (featuring Hollywood star Heather Graham) and music by Poland’s greatest composer, performed by the highly acclaimed pianist Lang Lang.

The Flying Machine is important not only to the history of Polish cinema, but to Polish culture in general. This universal and innovative project sets new standards,” said General Manager of the Polish Film Institute Agnieszka Odorowicz at the film’s press conference, emphasizing the unique qualities of this international project.

The live-action sequences were directed by Geoff Lindsey. The animated part of the script was directed by Martin Clapp and Marek Skrobecki. Krzysztof Ptak was director of photography.

The film’s main producer was Polish-based BreakThru Films, with a number of co-producers including TVP S.A., Canal+, Media Skok, Bona Entertainment Group (China), Storm Studio (Norway), BreakThru Films Ltd (United Kingdom), and the City of Łódź.

Latająca maszyna (The Flying Machine) was produced with patronage of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, and of the Frederic Chopin 2010 Programme.
