The Here After — Theatrical Release in France

On June 1, 2016 The Here After  by Magnus von Horn was released theatrically in France. Distribution is handled by Nour Films. The film’s French title is Le Lendemain

The Here After was released theatrically in Sweden on November 20. Distribution is handled by TriArt Film. The film’s Swedish title is Efterskalv. The theatrical release in Norway was scheduled for December 4. Magnus von Horn’s feature debut is distributed by Mer Film and its Norwegian title is Etterskjelv. The film was released in UK on March 11, 2016 where is distributed by Soda Pictures

Polish-Swedish Co-Production

The Here After was made as a co-production between Sweden and Poland with additional French involvement. The film has received support from both national film institutes: the Swedish Film Institute and the Polish Film Institute.

Magnus von Horn’s feature debut brings together Scandinavian aesthetics and approach to storytelling with emotional force straight out of the Polish filmmaking tradition. The director was born in Sweden and graduated from the Łódź Film School. His film, while set in Sweden, was itself born in Poland. The Here After is a double debut, marking the first major work for both director Magnus von Horn and producer Mariusz Włodarski (Lava Films).

Intruz (The Here After)

After being released from a juvenile detention centre, John wants a fresh start. But in the small community to which he now returns, his crime has been neither forgotten nor forgiven. John’s presence brings out the worst in people; a lynch seems to be looming. Feeling abandoned by old friends and the people he loves, John starts to lose hope. The aggression that once landed him in prison begins to build up again.

World Premiere at the Cannes Film Festival

The Here After had its world premiere at the 68th Cannes IFF. Since then, Magnus von Horn’s feature debut has screened at the 40th Toronto IFF, the 63rd San Sebastian IFF and the 59th BFI London Film Festival. The film has received excellent reviews in international press.

The Here After had its Polish premiere at the 40th Gdynia Film Festival, screening in Main Competition. Magnus von Horn received the awards for Best Director and Best Screenplay, while Agnieszka Glińska received the award for Best Editor . The film was released theatrically in Poland on October 9, with distribution handled by Gutek Film. World sales are handled by New Europe Film Sales.

The Here After received this year’s Swedish Film Awards in three categories: Best Film, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor.
