The sales agent Justyna Koronkiewicz from the Polish company MEDIA MOVE cooperated with the producer, the Documentary and Feature Film Studios, in the selling of the film to Japan. She has previously mediated the sale of the film to Taiwan and Thailand.
Córki Dancingu (The Lure) has been shown at more than one hundred festivals around the world and subsequent invitations continue. The sale of the film to the USA resulted in the release of the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack by Lakeshore Records.

Córki Dancingu (The Lure) is a coming-of-age story about two girls on the verge of womanhood. They arrive in Warsaw as teenagers; they leave as mature beings who have tasted suffering, love, and passion.
Teenagers Golden and Silver find themselves in the midst of the world of 1980s Warsaw dance parties, vibrant with music, glittering with neon lights and sequins. But these are no ordinary girls; they are mermaids, trying to understand what it means to be a woman in the world they are in. They join the musicians of the ‘Figs and Dates’ band, becoming an instant sensation on the city’s nightlife scene. In the throes of love and budding passions, they briefly forget their true nature. But all it takes is one broken heart for the situation to slip out of control.
Córki Dancingu (The Lure) is the feature debut by director Agnieszka Smoczyńska. The film was written by Robert Bolesto and lensed by Jakub Kijowski. Joanna Macha was responsible for production design, while Katarzyna Lewińska was costume designer. The original score for Córki Dancingu (The Lure) was written by Zuzanna Wrońska and Barbara Wrońska from Ballady i Romanse.
The film was produced by WFDiF, co-produced by Telewizja Polska and Platige Image, and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. Córki Dancingu (The Lure) was released theatrically in Poland on December 25, 2015.
Awards in Poland and Abroad
Córki Dancingu (The Lure) has received multiple awards at film festivals in Poland and abroad. Agnieszka Smoczyńska was awarded Discovery of the Year for her debut feature by Polish Film Academy. At the Gdynia Film Festival, Agnieszka Smoczyńska received the award for Best Debut, while Janusz Kaleja and Tomasz Matraszek won Best Make-Up. The film was also recognised at the Off Camera Festival in Krakow, winning the FIPRESCI prize. At the “Young and Cinema” Debut Film Festival in Koszalin, the film won Best Sound Design.
Córki Dancingu (The Lure) received the World Dramatic Cinema Competition Special Prize at this year’s Sundance film festival and three awards at the 36th Fantasporto International Film Festival — Best Film, Best Director, and Best Special Effects. Agnieszka Smoczyńska’s feature debut has also received the Youth Jury Prize at the Sofia Film Festival. At the “Kino Pavasaris” festival, Agnieszka Smoczyńska received the award for Best Director in the New Europe — New Names section. The film also won Best Feature at the Calgary Underground Film Festival in Canada and the Federico Fellini award at the Tiburon International Film Festival in the United States. Córki Dancingu (The Lure) also won the Grand Jury Prize at the Chicago International Movies and Music Festival. Another festival that brought accolades for Smoczyńska’s debut was the Nashville Film Festival; in the Bridgestone Narrative Feature competition, the film received the award for Best Music. In the festival’s Graveyard Shift Competition, Smoczyńska’s film received the Graveyard Shift Grand Jury Prize for “being everything from a cutting edge musical, to an emotionally faithful Hans Christian Andersen adaptation that would delight [Bob] Fosse and [Rainer Werner] Fassbinder equally […].” In this competition, Marta Mazurek also received the Special Jury Prize for Best Actress.
