"Tulpan" and "Four Nights with Anna" awarded at MFF in Tokyo

Polish co-production Tulpan by Kazakh director Siergiej Dworcewoj won the top award at the Tokyo International Film Festival. The Special Award of the Jury was given to Four Nights with Anna (Cztery noce z Anną) by Jerzy Skolimowski.

German-Swiss-Polish-Russian-Kazakh co-production Tulpan was honoured with the Tokyo Sakura Grand Prix. The director, Siergiej Dworcewoj, received the award for best director.

Tulpan, the Kazakh candidate for an Academy Award, tells the story of a young man who dreams about living on the steppe and working as a shepherd. The film will be shown in Polish cinemas in February. The cinematographer is Jolanta Dylewska.

Four Nights with Anna, which received the jury’s special award, will be displayed in Polish cinemas in a couple of weeks. The main character is Leon Okrasa, an extremely shy person who works in a medical waste incineration plant in a provincial town hospital and is in love with Anna, a nurse. Skolimowski’s creation has been submitted for Golden Globe in the Foreign Film category.

Both films were produced with financial support from the Polish Film Institute.

The Tokyo Film Festival lasted nine days. Fifteen films from Europe, Asia and the United States took part in the main competition.
