Volker Schlöndorff in Poland

A retrospective of films by the German director will be presented to audiences in six Polish cities. Volker Schlöndorff will accept a lifetime achievement award at the Plus Camerimage film festival, starting November 28 in Łódź. He will also meet with audiences in Łódź and Warsaw.

 

The grand opening of this nationwide Schlöndorff retrospective, with the director himself attending, will take place on November 28 in Łódź (Teatr Wielki) and again in Warsaw on November 30 (Multikino Złote Tarasy).

14 films from Schlöndorff’s 40-year-long career as a filmmaker will be screened between December 1 and December 13, 2009 in Warsaw’s Iluzjon cinema at the National Library. The presented films will include titles that have not as yet been released in Poland, such as Rita’s Legends (2000), Young Törless (1965) or Death of a Salesman (1985). Volker Schlöndorff will meet with fans on November 29 at 5 p.m. in the Empik store at Manufaktura in Łódź and on November 30 at 5 p.m. in the Empik store at Marszałkowska in Warsaw. He will be promoting his autobiography Light, Shadow and Movement. My Life and My Films in its Polish edition published by Propaganda.

The Schlöndorff retrospective is organized by the Plus Camerimage Festival, the Goethe-Institut in Warsaw and the National Film Archive (Filmoteka Narodowa).
