Jan Komasa’s Miasto 44 (Warsaw 44), a film co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, is now available in France on DVD and Blu-Ray, as well as on VoD.

October 21, 2015 marked the French DVD and Blu-Ray release date for Miasto 44 (Warsaw 44), a film by Jan Komasa. The film’s French distributor is Koba Films. Miasto 44 (Warsaw 44) is now also available on French VoD platforms, including mytf1vod and filmotv. The film’s French title is Insurrection.

Miasto 44 (Warsaw 44) is the story of young Varsovians, full of life and passion, living as if each day was to be their last. We meet the film’s main protagonists shortly before the start of the Warsaw Uprising. 18-year-old Stefan (Józef Pawłowski) is encouraged to join the ynderground movement by Kama (Anna Próchniak). He soon meets Biedronka (Zofia Wichłacz). The two girls compete for Stefan’s affection, but it soon turns out that all three of them will need to face the harsh reality of the uprising. In addition to fighting for love, they will need to fight for survival.

The Filmmakers

Miasto 44 (Warsaw 44) was written and directed by Jan Komasa, and lensed by Marian Prokop. The film’s production designers were Grzegorz Piątkowski and Marek Warszewski, with Dorota Roqueplo as costume designer and Magdalena Rutkiewicz-Luterek as costume designer (military uniforms). The film was scored by Antoni Komasa-Łazarkiewicz and edited by Michał Czarnecki. Miasto 44 (Warsaw 44) was produced by Akson Studio. Distribution in Poland is handled by Kino Świat. The film stars Józef Pawłowski, Anna Próchniak and Zofia Wichłacz, with supporting performances by Tomasz Schuchardt and Antoni Królikowski. Miasto 44 (Warsaw 44) was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Special Effects in the Film

The film’s special effects consultant was Richard Bain, whose credits include visual effects on Inception, Casino Royale, and Les Miserables. SFX were handled by Czech-based UPP, a company that has worked on such films as Mission Impossible — Ghost Protocol and the last film in the Die Hard series.

International Premiere in Busan

Miasto 44 (Warsaw 44) had ints international premiere in South Korea at the 19th Busan International Film Festival.

Almost Two Million Admissions in Polish Cinemas

Jan Komasa’s Miasto 44 (Warsaw 44) was released theatrically in Poland on September 19, 2014. To date, the film has marked almost 1.8 million tickets sold (1,751,496) in Poland alone, and has also been released theatrically in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
