Warsaw shoot completed for "The Woman That Dreamed About a Man"

Principal photography was completed in Warsaw 1 July for The Woman That Dreamed About a Man (Kobieta, która pragnęła mężczyzny) and the team moved to Copenhagen, where shooting was set to wind up 24 July. The production by Danish director Per Fly was also shot in Paris.

The main character of this erotic tale is a young Dane (Sonia Richter), a well-known artist and fashion photographer, who is living out of suitcases between photo sessions around the world. By chance she meets a man (Marcin Dorociński) who evokes strong passion in her, but the romance calls her whole life into question.

“Producing a film in Poland is a great experience,” said the director. “Here people, especially the young, are very optimistic and full of energy, but at the same time serious, the result of historical entanglements. Polish cinema is really special for me, especially old masters who in a way brought me up. In fact, one of my teachers in film school was Wojciech Marczewski.”

“I have always wanted to play in a foreign film,” said Dorociński, “so when an opportunity appeared to take part in this co-production based on such a great script, I did not hesitate. The plot reminds me of Polish films from the 1970s and 1980s. It is a simple story about people who face difficult choices. It shows that life is not black and white; that once we have everything fixed, we may meet somebody who will turn our stable life upside-down. How to deal with it? It is very human and may happen to anyone.”

The actor said that co-operation with Per Fly is excellent, “He is a great man, and a splendid director. He knows his craft perfectly.”

The shooting of The Woman That Dreamed About a Man is not the Danish director’s first experience in Poland. A few years ago, he was one of the consultants for “Ekran”, a project by the Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing addressed to professionals.

Zentropa Polska is the co-producer of the film, and Gutek Film is the distributor. The production is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute, the Netherlands Film Institute and Eurimages.
