"Weightlifter" with a chance to be nominated for the European Film Award





The jury of the International Short Film Festival in Drama (Greece) selected the film “Weightlifter” (dir. Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk) for the European Film Award in the category of Best Short Film. The film was made in the Munk Studio and is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Chance of nomination

According to the recently updated EFA regulations, a total of 24 candidates will be nominated in this category for the most important European film festivals, out of which five will be nominated.

“Weightlifter”

“Weightlifter” is a moving story of an athlete preparing for an important competition and also the story of the bitter price of victory. The film received the main award in the Short Film Competition at the Warsaw Film Festival in 2018.

The producer of the film is the Munk Studio operating at the Polish Filmmakers Association, Garmata Film, TVN Film, Polish Film Service and Non Stop Film Service. The film is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute and the Ukrainian Film Agency.

Award for the film “Story”

At the Greek festival, the Best Animation Award went to Jolanta Bańkowska’s „Story”. Presented, among others at Berlinale in 2019, the animation ‘Story’ is an ironic sequence of several scenes about the interpenetration of everyday life with the digital world. The film was also made in the Munk Studio and is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

The International Short Film Festival in Drama took place on September 15-21, 2019.
