The annual Polish Film Institute Awards were handed out yesterday. The 2nd edition of the awards went to:

INTERNATIONAL FILM EVENT OF THE YEAR

5th Planete Doc Review (Against Gravity)

“Each edition of Planete Doc Review is an outstanding event for all lovers of the world’s best documentary cinema. The screenings, gathered in thematic cycles, are accompanied by discussions with experts, directors, and debates about contemporary documentary film. In 2008 the festival was visited by a record number of 25 000 viewers.”

POLISH FILM EVENT OF THE YEAR

Action “Tu było kino” (“Chrum” Publishing House)

“The intention of the creators of this unique project is to save and document all of Poland’s existing one-hall cinemas, which for decades were the only link for the viewer to great films, and which now, in the era of multiplex expansion, are often on the verge of oblivion. The authors photographed over 500 such cinemas in a project that has become an outstanding review of cinema architecture.”
