Oscar Selection in Warsaw

As of this year, the winner of the grand prize in the Short Film Competition at the Warsaw Film Festival will be among the films considered by members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the Academy Awards in the Best Short Film category.

This information was released by Jon Bloom, who is currently serving as the chair of the Short Films and Feature Animation Branch Executive Committee of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

“For years, we have been promoting first-time filmmakers; the Short Film Competition, which we launched in 2008, is another step in that direction. This year’s Shorts Warszawa workshop for Polish filmmakers specializing in short forms has shown how much they can gain from networking with experienced film professionals. I believe that the opportunity to be shortlisted for the Oscars will further increase the interest in the Warsaw Film Festival among young filmmakers from Poland and abroad,” said Stefan Laudyn, head of the Warsaw Film Festival.
