„Pamfir” and „Fools” awarded in Serbia

Two productions co-financed by the Polish Film Institute were awarded at the 29th Palić European Film Festival (Serbia). These are „Pamfir” (dir. Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk) and „Fools” (dir. Tomasz Wasilewski) presented at this year’s Cannes festival, which can be seen at the ongoing New Horizons festival in Wrocław.

„Pamfir”

The co-production of four countries: Ukraine, Poland, France and Chile – was awarded the Tower of Palić for the best director and a special distinction from the FIPRESCI jury.

This is a story set in western Ukraine on the eve of the traditional Malanka festival. Pamfir returns to his family after months of absence, but is soon forced to confront his turbulent past: his only child sets a fire in the house of prayer. In order to pay off his son’s guilt, Pamfir decides to take a risky path with irreparable consequences.

The producers of the film are: Aleksandra Kostina (BOSONFILM), Laura Briand (LES FILMS D’ICI), Bogna Szewczyk, Klaudia Śmieja-Rostworowska (MADANTS) and Giancarlo Nasz (QUIJOTE FILMS). Nikodem Chabior is responsible for editing „Pamfir”.

„Fools”

The festival distinction (in the Parallels and Encounters category) went to the director of the Polish-Romanian-German co-production. „Fools” is the story of a marriage whose everyday life begins to fall apart when, against the husband’s will, the wife allows her adult son to live with them. The past comes back to them in full force, and they must redefine their choices, love and life.

The film was produced by Ewa Puszczyńska (Extreme Emotions), and the co-producers are Ada Solomon from the Romanian microFilm and Jamila Wenske from the German Achtung Panda. Romanian cinematographer Oleg Mutu is responsible for the cinematography for „Fools”, and for the set design: Katarzyna Sobańska and Marcel Sławiński. The main roles was played by: Dorota Kolak, Łukasz Simlat, Katarzyna Herman, Marta Nieradkiewicz and Tomasz Tyndyk.
