Polish Actors Awarded in Bulgaria

Dawid Ogrodnik and Marian Dziędziel received special prizes at film festivals in Stara Zagora and Varna.

Dawid Ogrodnik Wins Award in Stara Zagora

At the second edition of the Golden Linden International Film Festival of New European Cinema, which ran from May 31 through June 4 in Stara Zagora, Polish actor Dawid Ogrodnik received the Best Actor award for his performance in Chce się żyć (Life Feels Good), a film directed by Maciej Pieprzyca. The festival in Stara Zagora is Bulgaria’s only film event focusing on contemporary European cinema. This year’s edition featured 33 films from 14 European countries, divided into three sections: the competition programme, films out of competition, and Bulgarian cinema. Jury members included recognized members of the film industry from Bulgaria, Montenegro, Georgia, and France. Films screening out of competition included Ida by Paweł Pawlikowski and Mój rower (My Father’s Bike) by Piotr Trzaskalski.

Marian Dziędziel Wins Best Actor Award in Varna

For his performance in Piąta pora roku (The Fifth Season of the Year) by Jerzy Domaradzki, Marian Dziędziel received the Best Actor award at the 22nd ‘Love is Folly’ International Film Festival in Varna. This competitive festival had a lineup of 13 selected films produced in the last two years and focusing on the subject of love. Director Jerzy Domaradzki accepted the award on Marian Dziędziel’s behalf.

Both events were organized in partnership with the Polish Institute in Sofia.
