Polish Animations at Careof DOCVA

Thanks to a project known as the identi_TY Animated Film Festival, audiences in Milan will have an opportunity to see the works of young Polish animation artists between May 21 and May 25, 2013.

Identi_TY is a project that showcases approximately fifty exceptional contemporary animated films. The lineup will be focused around one common theme: the search for identity in the context of the contemporary world and urban settings.

The first presentation of identi_TY took place in 2012 within the framework of the “Przemiany” festival at the Copernicus Science Centre. Thanks to wide interest from the audience, it was decided to continue the project in the Careof DOCVA gallery in Milan. Admissions to all film screenings are free of charge.

Polish Animations

Films scheduled for screening at the identi_TY Animated Film Festival include several projects co-financed by the Polish Film Institute: Świteź (The Lost Town of Świteź) – an adaptation of a romantic ballad by Adam Mickiewicz, directed by Kamil Polak; Refreny by Wioletta Sowa with music composed by Leszek Możdżer – a dreamlike tale of three generations of women; the puppet animation Danny Boy, directed by Marek Sobecki, Snępowina by Marta Pajek – a film that takes its audience on a surprising and unsettling journey through the real world and the world of dreams; the intimate animated film Dróżnik (The Railway Watchman) by Piotr Szczepanowicz, the documentary musical Miasto płynie by Balbina Bruszewska, the music video for “Pirate’s Life” by the Irish band We Cut Corners, directed by Przemysław Adamski and Katarzyna Kijek, as well as Krzysztof Kiwerski’s latest film The Rolling Stones.

New Films

“Contemporary Polish animation stems from the heritage of such artists as Julian Antonisz or Zbigniew Rybczyński. A lot of diverse animated films are produced in Poland these days, using puppet animation, cutout animation, using mixed technologies, or computer animation. Both first-time animators and experienced contemporary filmmakers are among the authors of films selected for our project,” says Iwona Kamińska-Gosk, one of the curators of the project.

The identi_TY Animated Film Festival has been organized by Stowarzyszenie Trzecia Fala and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
